Optogenetics – the ability to control precisely the activity of cells with light – has revolutionized the field of neuroscience. In this talk, Dr. Gereau will introduce the basic principles of optogenetics, discuss the application of optogenetics to pain research, describe the development of new wireless tools for manipulating neural circuits, and discuss the potential application of optogenetics for the treatment of pain and other conditions.
