Abstract:  As Victor Hugo wrote, “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”  Opera Theatre of Saint Louis General Director Timothy O’Leary will join us for a conversation about the changing environment for arts organizations, and how they are increasingly aware of the role they must play in terms of civic impact in order to stay relevant in today’s world.  Focusing on Opera Theatre’s community engagement work on projects such as THE DEATH OF KLINGHOFFER and more recently a response to events in St. Louis since the unrest in Ferguson, this discussion will center on how the arts play a role in creating connection and common purpose in civic life.
